“Latvia–Ukraine: poetry bridges” is an association GAISMA self-initiated pilot project with the aim to engage the public, especially young people, in Latvian and Ukrainian literature. During the project we have organized three literary evenings, where we talked about the lives and creative work of A. Čaks and M. Semenko, Aspazija and Lesya Ukrainka, V. Belševica and L. Kostenko, B. Talce and M. Černenko, I. Ziedonis and D. Pavličko. At the moment we continue planning the next literary evening.
The events are hosted by Ukrainian poet, translator, playwright, Candidate of Philological Sciences Margarita Černenko, and other writers and poets from Latvia are also invited.
The project’s goal is to integrate Ukrainian civilians into Latvian society, jointly seeking what is common in our cultures and what is different.
